Borno state gets new deputy governor

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has nominated the state’s former commissioner of Youths Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa for the position of Deputy Governor of Borno State.

The nomination follows the death of Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha on Saturday, 15th of August, 2015 in Yola, capi‎tal of Adamawa while he was on official assignment.
Spokesman to the Governor, Malam Isa Gusau confirmed that Shettima has in a letter, dated Monday, October 5, 2015 and addressed to the speaker, Borno State House of Assembly, forwarded the name of Durkwa seeking the approval of the Assembly.
“Shettima acted in accordance with the powers conferred on him by Section 191 Sub-Section (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended),” the statement said.
Daily Trust reports that the house of the new deputy governor nominee had been surrounded by security agents ahead of his formal announcement as deputy to governor as of Monday afternoon
